Tasting evenings

Our wine tastings are a fun and informal opportunity to taste wines that you may not normally get the chance to do so.

In 2009, we focussed our wine tasting evenings on broad regions such as Northern Italy, Spain, Northern Rhone, Loire Valley, Med Islands and so on. This year, we want to drill down a bit more to look at wines from smaller sub-regions, wines from particular growers/makers, wines from particular grape varieties and so on

In terms of our wine shop generally, Aileen and myself hand pick the wines we put on the shelf. With this in mind, we wanted to add another aspect to the evenings by asking you all to be ‘wine buyers’ on the night and select the wines from the tasting that you think would work on our shelves – all a bit of fun really….but we’ll come down on you hard if you get it wrong!!! Only kidding

A tasty year to date

So far this year, we've tasted the rustic wines of Roussillon, the food-friendly wines of Alsace, discovered some amazing Vin de Pays wines from France, up and coming stars of Marlborough, New Zealand, enjoyed the big bold flavours of charcuterie, accompaniments and wines from the Basque region, explored the nuances of wines made from mountain or high altitude vineyards, sampled a wide variety of grape varieties from Sicily, embraced the liveliness of Natural wines, celebrated different styles of wines from the Veneto, sipped Provencal wines in the garden and most recently, tasted through some interesting goat's cheeses from the British Isles and matched them with wines from the Touraine.

• Organic and biodynamic: Thursday 9 September, 7:30pm; Tickets £18 per person
• Pure Pinot: Thursday 30 September, 7:30pm; Tickets £18 per person
• Rind-ripened cheeses & matching wines: Thursday 14 October, 7:30pm; Tickets £25 per person
• A Spanish conquest: Thursday 28 October; Tickets £15 per person
• Classic wines: Thursday 11 November, 7:30pm; Tickets £20 per person
• Sparkling wines: Thursday 25 November, 7:30pm; Tickets £18 per person
