Tasting evenings

Our wine tastings are a fun and informal opportunity to taste wines that you may not normally get the chance to do so.

In 2009, we focussed our wine tasting evenings on broad regions such as Northern Italy, Spain, Northern Rhone, Loire Valley, Med Islands and so on. This year, we want to drill down a bit more to look at wines from smaller sub-regions, wines from particular growers/makers, wines from particular grape varieties and so on

In terms of our wine shop generally, Aileen and myself hand pick the wines we put on the shelf. With this in mind, we wanted to add another aspect to the evenings by asking you all to be ‘wine buyers’ on the night and select the wines from the tasting that you think would work on our shelves – all a bit of fun really….but we’ll come down on you hard if you get it wrong!!! Only kidding

See below on how to book tickets. We would also advise you to book early to avoid disappointment.

Here’s the schedule for the coming months:

Thursday, 11th March at 7:30pm – Vin de Pays and Vin de Table – Tickets £15 per person - BOOKED OUT

Thursday, 25th March at 7:30pm – Marlborough, New Zealand: The wines of Framingham and Clos Henri – Tickets £15 per person – BOOKED OUT

Thursday, 8th April at 7:30pm – A celebration of Basque foods and wines with guest speaker Patrick Dear from The Goods Shed – Tickets £25 per person - 1 SPACE LEFT

Thursday 22nd April at 7:30pm – Mountain wines: a look at some of the less discovered gems from the Jura & Savoie regions of Eastern France and higher altitude vineyards of Northern Italy – Tickets £15 per person - 11 SPACES LEFT

Thursday 6th May at 7:30pm - Sicily: with its rich and varied cuisine, wonderful array of indigenous grape varieties and spectacular terrain on which to locate vineyards, Sicily is one of the most exciting wine regions in the world right now - Tickets £15 per person

Thursday 20th May at 7:30pm - Natural Wines: the wine landscape has become increasingly dull in recent years with brands - whether company or country driven - dictating the style of wine we should be drinking. So much so that although supermarkets now stock more wine than ever, the choice in terms of styles and grape varieties has diminished dramatically - an approach that has essentially denatured a product of nature. Selecting from 10 merlots is not reasonable choice. This evening looks at what are termed Natural Wines - wines that are made with minimal intervention in the vineyard and winery - Tickets £15 per person

Thursday 10th June at 7:30pm - Veneto: One of our favourite regions in Italy, driven mostly by Aileen's love for Prosecco, but also because of the traditional grapes grown in the region and the wonderfully complex wines they produce - Tickets £15 per person

Thursday 24th June at 7:30pm - Provence: sun-burnished Mediterranean vines adjacent to the sea producing wines that exude aromas of pine trees and salty, herby, green-olive flavours on the palate - come along to experience these food-friendly wines that embody summer eating and entertaining - Tickets £15 per person
