Cheeseboards We buy our cheeses weekly with respect for seasonality, only selecting what is best at the time. Therefore, it’s possible that we may not have a cheese listed below – however, we are happy to suggest alternatives
We love the combination of cheese and bread so all our cheeseboards come with a selection of locally baked breads…..as well as other treats! (Prices shown are per person - add another person to share for £3.50)
Cheeseboard I: Cheeseboard of the day – see our Specials Board/mirror for details
Cheeseboard II: The Classic – you know you love ‘em - £7.95
Colston Bassett Stilton – the blue that got us into blue – quite simply the finest blue in the world…in our view Montgomery cheddar – is it the best cheddar ever? A Monty’s is made using a different culture every day so a Monday cheese is different to a Tuesday one – add to this the varying maturities and time of year it is made and you have a cheese with a multiple personality – the ultimate farmhouse cheddar! One to try time and time again Brie de Meaux – when it’s good, there’s no match
Cheeseboard III: The full farmyard – a selection of three different milk-types - £7.95
Wigmore – a ewe’s milk brie-style cheese from Berkshire. Clean, rich and creamy. One of Aileen’s favourites Kirkham’s Lancashire – one that has grown on us over the last few months - crumbly, moist, buttery….the ultimate ‘dairy’ cheese Goat’s cheese of the moment – we were reluctant to name this cheese on the menu as they are particularly seasonal and we want to offer what is best at the time you order
Cheeseboard IV: Choose your own cheeses and accompaniments
Don’t listen to our mumbo jumbo - get stuck in at the cheese counter yourself and choose your own plate of cheese heaven
We are happy to assist and also help you pick suitable accompaniments
Choose any 2 cheeses £6.95; 3 cheeses - £8.50; 4 cheeses - £9.95
Suggested accompaniments (subject to availability) – choose any two of the following:
1. Chutney – complex, fruity, spicy 2. Quince jelly – fantastic with hard ewes milk but also great with any hard mature cheese 3. Mixed nuts – good all rounder, particularly walnuts and hazelnuts 4. Dried fruits – apricots and dates are the favourites 5. Fruit pastes – sublime with intensely flavoured cheeses 6. Mixed Olives – Mediterranean farm animals like sheep and goats have typically grazed amongst the olive groves for centuries – got to be a link here 7. Surprises – ask as we may have other tasty accompaniments to share with you!
